Project Goals

Sundaram Fasteners a Group company world renowned automobile accessories manufacturing TVS Group company with a 18 Billion US Dollar turnover mainly concentrating on Design and Manufacturing of Special purpose fasteners, as a pioneer company started from the year 1966 SFL is planned to diversify its plan to invest its time more towards Value Product Development (VPD). One of the fore most steps in VPD is to automate its Standard Product Development (SPD). This project involves - optimizing the design process by reducing the time on Standard Product Development and focusing on Valued Product Development.

The Design Process

The typical design cycles are as follow

Present Workflow

  • Creation of Product & Process Drawings
  • Process Sequence drawing for various stages
  • Selection of Machine for the process
  • Generation of Tool Inserts drawings
  • Generation of Tool Schedule

Manual calculation of
  • Volume of the Screw or Bolt
  • Volume of each stage process Along with
  • Tool schedule generation
  • Grade related parameters entry
  • Thread related parameters entry
  • Repeated entry of same parameter value in different places

Proposed Workflow

  • A simple user interface is available where the user has to feed the changing parameters of the Screw or Bolt
  • The Software will first check whether the same bolt or screw size is available in the Database if that is available it will reproduce the old or it will create the new one

Tool schedule

  • Option to generate Various Tool Drawings for different Machines at right click, So that designers will concentrate only on VPD
  • Utilization of part numbers which was generated previously
  • Even a Person from Marketing Department can enter the values and get the drawings
  • Built in intelligence in Database to ensure that correct part numbers appear in Tool Schedule
  • Parameters which appear in different places will get update all the places like Grade related parameters etc.
  • Reference to manuals or other parameters is eliminated completely
